(Want my attention? Photo of a cat.)

I saw the first Two Little Dickheads show in 2018 because Tessa Waters told me that I should. She was right. It was as ridiculous as it was gorgeous. And what a joy to see people create comedy that is so theirs that there is nothing to compare it to. Make stuff that you love and you will find an audience who love you. (And I have since met Haiku and Bongo the cats.)

If you could see anyone (possible or impossible) in your audience, who would it be?
Patti Smith or Ani Difranco. They’re both in the country. SHARE THE SHIT OUT OF THIS ARTICLE SO THEY HEED OUR DiCKHEAD CALL.

What is one of your favourite comedy festival memories?
Wearing a dress made completely out of pots and pans! It was magnificent idiot couture. Dave wore a funnel for a minimalistic juxtaposition. It was funny. One night I accidentally knocked his funnel off his willy. My mum was in the audience! And my Grandma. And Mum's best friend. And Grandad. It was VERY funny. To my dismay, we now have a ‘no nude Dave’ Dickhead policy.

Who is one of your favourite Melbourne Indie Celebratory Feminists?
The Travelling Sisters! Do they count as one? It’s impossible to choose between them.

What three shows are you not going miss this comedy festival?
Cousin Tara: Wukkas (We smell Gibbo potential.)
Big Big Big: Catching Jack (A trio of MICFs that are ripping it up. The future of comedy is now.)
Aborigi-LOL: The Return (LOL is an understatement, Dane and Matt are thigh-slappin' snortin' funny.)

What else could MICF stand for?
Menstruation Is Completely Fine

Fringe Wives Club

I'd been calling Glittergrass "Clittergrass" – both work.

The Fringe Wives Club have been touring to festivals with pink and purple sequins, clothes with pockets, and a positive and unrelenting feminist attitude for over two years. They're making women, and anyone identifying as female, feel good about themselves by telling stories about amazing women, reminding the I'm-not-a-feminists that you can have a dick without being a dick, and acknowledging the privilege of being able to make many song-and-dances about being a woman.

To increase the power of the club, the original trio (Victoria Falconer, Tessa Waters and Rowena Hutson) have welcomed brilliant new wives Laura Frew and Sharnema Nougar. The new show also has a live band of wives, and everyone who sees and loves them can consider themselves a wife. (It's the only time I'd call myself a wife.)

Does sparkle, song, dance and purple hair change the world? If only it were that easy. But a show that addresses anger, frustration and shame with love, pride and positivity is many steps in the right direction.

And they ain't finished yet. Today I read this story in the Guardian. Our federal government doesn't believe the professional advice about domestic violence and thinks it's better for women and children to stay in abusive relationships because "family". If you think counselling will help, have a watch of this episode of You Can't Ask That on iView. We ain't finished yet.

Being a wife is about way more than pockets, awesome hair and confidence. It's being someone who supports and is supported. It's about creating a world where everyone can feel and be safe. It's about standing up for people who can't stand up for themselves. It's about making equality the bottom line of what we accept in life, rather than something we reach for.

Two Little Dickheads. Sharnema Nougar & David Tieck

Two Little Dickheads is produced by The Furies. That's a pretty good indication that it's going to be worth seeing as they've already given us Romeo Is Not The Only Fruit, Volcano and Clittery Glittery this festival. Indie producers rock.

I'm still not sure what this show is. I'm not sure if they know yet, but Sharnema Nougar and David Tieck combine character, improv and clowning to make comedy that is totally their own.

I loved every gorgeously weird moment of it. And not just because it has stories about cats.

Sharnema and David welcome us to their home. They are wearing matching pink t-shirts,  stunning silver eye shadow under their glasses, and pastel drawstring-waist cat-print pants (ok, they're pj bottoms). Their makeup is bio glitter and their two cats (that may double as hats) are rescues; they may be dickheads but they're not DICKHEADS.

With drinks shared around, we're ready for an odd day with the couple (who are also totally best friends) but disaster strikes and a shiny, silver meteorite – which is as pretty as a disco ball – is heading to earth. How will they spend their last day? Can the world really explode in a hotel comedy room?

See shows you have no idea about this festival.
